10-month old succumbs to injuries in La Croix Maingot fire

A ten month old child, identified as Kerry Lewis, has succumbed to injuries sustained in last night’s fire at La Croix Maingot which destroyed a dwelling house.

Kerry’s twin sister, Kerisa, who was also injured, is still in hospital.

The children’s aunt, Lorianne Lewis, recalled that she was talking to her brother when the incident happened.

“When I reached on top of the road my mother told me:’Look! A fire.’ When I watched I saw a big flame,” Lewis said.

She said her mother ran towards the burning building and she later heard her screaming.

“When I went I saw it was my brother’s house that got burned,” Lewis stated.

She told reporters when she saw the injured children she knew that Kerry would not survive.

“I will miss him,” Lewis said tearfully.

A police investigation is currently underway, law enforcement officials have told the Times.

  1. This is the question a 10 month old baby left alone,a helpless child left home alone.I don’t understand some people, st.lucians reckless and negligent.Always burning down house’s.

  2. what makes you think that she didn’t step outside to get something just by the road. Anything can happen in five minutes. Whenever it’s another person’s situation we always know what should and shouldn’t be done, but do we actually use it as a guide for ourselves.. no one actually know why she stepped away from her house.. it can be to collect pampers for the babies whatever… anything could have happened in that short space of time. Urll behaving like urll stand there 24/7 never leaving urll children sight. Put urself in the situation before urll start saying “Neglect'” Where did she go, How far, how long did she spend, what did she go to do… those questions should be asked.

    • No child should be left alone for one minute. Like you said things happens in the twinkle of an eye. We are not talking about leaving teenagers or even able aged kids. They are babies

      • do you go everywhere with your child? There is no time that you go away from your child whether it’s outside or around the house.NEVER!! your child is always with you?

    • Ten month old babies should not be left alone in a house. Some youlg parents are just too careless. If she loved her child she would not leave them in a house alone. So stop making silly excuses for her. I have a baby n ive never for once left him alone at home n go anywhere. Take care of your children.

  3. For you who knew it was her habit of leaving those two little kids home alone and did not report to the family service secretly and today saying that i feel you contributed to the demised, may that poor child soul rest in perfect peace and speedy recovery to the little girl.

    • Exactly. Just imagine burning in a house fire and you cant run to safety. That mother need to be punished. Alot of us women cant have kids and some those who can have dont appreciate that blessing n tend to neglect their children.

      • We always know what to say when is not us…you think the lady would want her child to burn and die why the hell yoll saying that now…yoll couldn’t call the police before the child died since yoll know it’s her habits….shut your mouth…I don’t know you my lady but may God be with you.

      • Exactly… They always know what should and shouldn’t be done. When is them do they take their advice for themselves.

      • Sometimes u are right there with the child. A plit second and they disappear. Only to find them hurt or dead doing something that the parent did not forsee. Was there unattended fires at home? Did the child have access to matches, candles etc. What was the cause?. Ten months unsupervised for 5 mins is dangerous farless more than that. Feel sorry for the family.

  4. This mother should be charged. This should be thoroughly investigated. No child should be left alone and it takes an incident like this magnitude for many to learn. Sadly a life i’s lost. Yes we should not judge but in other countries you would not leave the hospital without saying exactly what happened without child protection going away with the other kids. People the fact is what it is. No pretending to this. I heard her with my ears said the kids were home alone and she went to check someone, now all stories changing. Like she said she prayed for a boy and her boy is the one who died, pray that God take you outta this as well… but justice has to be…

    • The mother alone? What happen to the father? Charge the mother and forget the father because only the mom is responsible for caring and protecting the child right?

  5. There should be a law….preventing media houses….from publishing the pictures of under age children..then again…welcome to stay to St. Lucia..where anything goes..smh

  6. It is so sad that some people would take this so negetive a baby lost his life in a fire no one would want such to happen to their children .

  7. Mother this mother that….. What about the father, he was the one with his children that night and left the candle burning and went to the shop,
The mother fainted when she heard that a baby boy had died.
The father was the one who ran through the fire to get his kids inside the house. I pray that the whole family finds peace.

  8. So sad. Let us not criticized each other but let it be an example for us. Rip little one angels have saved you .

  9. No matter how you look at this it’s negligence. These are babies, not saying that they have to be in your feet 24/7, however for them to be left alone long enough for this much damage to happen even death then they were obviously left for way too long. As much as my heart feels for this family and these babies I do believe that the mother or whoever is responsible for these kids ought to be charged for this. This is an unnecessary and tragic loss!!

  10. I believe we all agree it is sad. We all agree children and or babies should not be left unsupervised for lengthy periods. We all agree that this is heartwrenching to all concerned. There is still one fighting to live with the doctors helps and much prayers she may survive. Each person directly involved must step up and take responsibility. Where justice must be served by God’s grace it will.
