Twelve year old Martinique swimming prodigy, Christophe Maleau, is preparing to swim the crossing between Saint Lucia and Martinique on Saturday, media reports say.
According to the Martinique online publication, RCI.fm, the youngster will on October 10, take the plunge at Rodney Bay.
He is expected to begin his swim at 5.00 am.
His newest challenge will involve some 10 hours of swimming.
It is being undertaken in support of breast cancer.
The child’s mother is suffering from cancer which is in the remission phase, it has been reported.
Martinique 1 Ere says Christophe Maleau will be accompanied on his latest challenge by a delegation including coaches, family, divers, doctors and the press.
In 2018 the youngster successfully completed a ten-hour swim between Diamant and Schoelcher in Martinique.
In 2017 Maleau completed a 6.4 km swim.
He has won a number of championship titles for swimming in the 500 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, 200 butterfly and 400 freestyle categories.
“I feel ready and I can’t wait,” he has been quoted as saying of his planned Saint Lucia to Martinique swim.
