The Micoud South Constituency of the opposition United Workers Party (UWP) has presented 120 students from the community with electronic devices to further their education.

Micoud South MP and former Prime Minister Allen Chastanet announced the donation on his official Facebook page.

“With Saint Lucia’s schools being closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, education outside the classroom has changed, and some students remain disadvantaged,” Chastanet observed.

And he noted that with the rise of e-learning, the former UWP administration expanded the E-books programme and distributed thousands of devices to secondary school students, thereby assisting in teaching remotely and on digital platforms.

However, the UWP leader explained that there continues to be a need to get even more devices to students to assist this process.

As a result, Chastanet said the constituency of Micoud South collaborated with the SSDF under the Education Assistance Stimulus to make the recent donation of tablets to students of the Ti Rocher, Blanchard, and Desruisseaux Combined Schools possible.

“This goes a long way in assisting students at the primary school level with the continuation of virtual classrooms. We hope to continue to provide this level of support and relief in these times,” the former Prime Minister stated.
