Man Shot After Injuring Officer In Castries

A City Police officer shot a man suspected of suffering from a mental disorder after the man injured another cop with a stone.

According to reports, at about 10:45 am, near the Government buildings on the Castries Waterfront, an officer encountered the man beating some homeless people.

The officer intervened and the man threw a stone at him, hitting the cop on the shoulder.

The reports indicated that when the injured officer fell, the man who threw the stone began to wrestle with another officer who shot him in the leg.

Emergency personnel from the Gros Islet Fire Station who rushed to the scene transported the injured stone thrower and the officer he hit with the stone to a medical facility.

Both men sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

  1. I hope the man with the mental illness is able to get some proper help for his condition. Unlikely with the poor quality services available here – just send them away with a prescription and no back up support.

  2. Where are the resources and the facilities for treatment of mental health in St. Lucia? Perhaps St. Vincent can help – just saying.
