Police dog, a gift from France, has died

A police canine gifted to the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) by France less than a year ago has died, according to reliable sources.

K9 Tyson was officially handed over to Saint Lucian authorities in a ceremony on July 18, 2024. Trained in interdiction and detection, the dog was considered a valuable asset to the force’s efforts to combat drug and firearm trafficking.

The sources say Tyson played a critical role in several high-profile police operations, including the seizure of firearms and cannabis resin in Mon Repos, cannabis resin concealed in food shipments from New York at the Vieux Fort Port, and cocaine worth $3.8 million at Dauphin Beach, one of the country’s largest narcotics seizures in recent years.

The circumstances surrounding Tyson’s death were not immediately clear, and attempts to reach the RSLPF for comment have so far been unsuccessful.

  1. Die? Come on man that has to have been a hit. Tyson score too many knockouts since he started and somebody took bite his ears off. Find the perp and you solve many crimes.

  2. What a shame………….. neglect? Or just age on the poor dog. RIP
We need more like Tyson to help here in St Lucia.

  3. Tyson up root de fellas guns and drugs, what do you’ll expect. Some ppl in high places are on the pay list

  4. First it was the scanner at the Entry port, now it is Tyson the police officer. This smells like a Rat. I hope Tyson is give a state funeral just like any other officer and an investigation conducted using foreign investigators.

  5. Really, Saint Lucians don’t care for animals. Next time leave the people animal in its country.

  6. The place is corrupt to the core….a big money was put on Tyson…Mr.commisioner still wondering if they’re rogue cops amongst dem….dat cocaine they bust must be on a 24hr CCTV surveillance or else they will just have baking soda and flour for evidence.

  7. As I wrote on this site, when Tyson was given to St Lucia less than a year ago, “I hope he is looked after properly”!!! No more police dogs should be brought here on animal welfare grounds. There is not the expertise, training or dare I say the will to care for these highly intelligent and trained dogs. So sad for this creature (and most dogs in St Lucia) that their loyalty and intelligence are not appreciated, and their welfare and needs are not met. Please French Government do not send your dogs to St Lucia for their own safety!

  8. This sounds like assassination of a law enforcement official.
I hope the investigation is treated as such

  9. Well stated all! Something appears to be seriously wrong and I dare say I agree it smell like a dead rat (I pray not, but).
We need an investigation, toxicology report, autopsy and detail report as to cause of death by a trusted external agency not St. Lucian. Tyson was an effective law enforcer in his short service may he rest in peace.
I await a statement from the commissioner of police as one of his dedicated officer has fallen!

  10. “A police canine gifted to the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) by France less than a year ago has died, according to reliable sources.”

Please send the dog back to France for a legitimate autopsy – France should request it for their animal for sure. You folk in 758 ????????

  11. Please can we have an independent autopsy be done to determine the exact cause of death

  12. Tyson was killed by someone who had access, opportunity and motive. A corrupt someone with access no doubt, was paid to do that hit job. Moving forward, everyone one who had access to Tyson at least 24 hours before his untimely demise should be polygraphed to arrive at a narrow field of possible suspects. The criminal is right there in the RSLPF.

  13. Hear all of them…. The dog could have had a “medical issue “ such heart worms disease that’s common in that breed, but proper pedigree was not offered so the dog could have had a heart attack. Getting the dog is a blessing, but proper medical monitoring and care is a whole other task. Strict diet, and routine vaccinations along with daily vitamins are a must some people just don’t know the staggering cost to maintain that dog, it cost more than a child……so it does not have to be a miscellaneous act that killed that dog.

  14. I stopped commenting because whatever I posted was not being published but I hope this one does.
I’m not a Nostradamus but when this dog was gifted to the government I wrote a comment saying that this should remain in private hands. My justification for this statement was that, this dog would either be badly fed or ill treated and then die or it will be killed. Anyway I predicted that this dog would be gone sooner or later. The illegal gun and drug trade is not conducted by the ordinary citizens that are most times arrested for them. We all know that these crimes are committed by the elite in society, unfortunately their foot soldiers pay the price for them. Don’t you think the barrel scanner was destroyed on behalf of one of these elite members of society. I await the next chapter on the fight against the illegal gun and drug trade.
