A family in Dennery is in mourning following the murder of 36-year-old Jimmy Charles, one of two reported killings over the weekend.
Police have since confirmed that on Friday, June 27, at approximately 9:17 p.m., officers from the Richfond Police Station responded to calls of a shooting in Thomazo, Dennery. Upon arrival, they discovered Charles’ lifeless body in a shed along the road, with multiple gunshot wounds.
Prior to the official update, harrowing footage had already been circulating online, showing Charles lying motionless in a pool of blood.
Charles’ mother-in-law, Jeanette John, said she learned of his death through her sister but remains unsure about the circumstances that led to the killing.
“They’re taking it hard, especially the children’s mother,” John said, referring to her daughter, with whom Charles had two children. “She’s really… she’s down from the time that happened.”
John remembered Charles as a loving presence in her life, despite tensions he may have had in the wider community.
“I know out there they did not like him, but he was great. I don’t know… because I loved him,” she said, adding that she had told Charles she loved him before he died. She said he had always been loving to her.
When asked what she would miss most, John said: “I will miss everything. Especially in the morning. I wake up at five o’clock, I … exercise and he will come in the window. Every morning, he’d laugh at me, ‘Mama, you there exercising’. Every morning.”
According to a public statement by Superintendent Steven Victorin, officers from both the Richfond Police Station and the Major Crimes Unit are “diligently working” on the case. “I am pleased to inform you that we will soon announce a breakthrough in this investigation,” Victorin said.
He sought to reassure Dennery residents and the wider public that the RSLPF is committed to bringing perpetrators to justice.
“We will spare no resources in pursuing those who are intent on committing crimes within our territory,” he said, urging anyone with information to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 456-3754, the crime hotline at 555, or submit tips via the RSLPF’s mobile app.
