Autopsy confirms drowning in American tourist’s death, but police probe continues

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has confirmed that US citizen Travis Andrew Wyant died by drowning.

The body of the 37-year-old was discovered along the shoreline at Rodney Bay around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, a day after he was reported missing. Wyant had been scheduled to leave the island on July 7.

According to police, a post-mortem examination was initially scheduled for 3 p.m. on the day the body was found, but was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances at the pathology department of the Owen King European (OKEU) Hospital.

The autopsy was eventually conducted on Thursday, July 10.

The pathologist concluded that Wyant’s cause of death was drowning, with no signs of trauma that could have contributed to his death.

Police said several eyewitnesses have been interviewed as investigators try to piece together the sequence of events leading up to this death.

Items believed to belong to Wyant were found over the weekend near the hotel where he had been staying.

The RSLPF said the investigation remains active.
