Housing Minister Richard Frederick is spotlighting his record in government as he campaigns to retain the Castries Central seat in next month’s general election.
Frederick has labelled himself an Independent Labour Candidate for the upcoming general election, aligning once again with the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP). During this term, the Castries Central MP, has served as Minister for Housing and Local Government in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre.
He is running against United Workers Party hopeful Rosh Clarke and independent candidate Stanley Felix.
Addressing a gathering of Saint Lucia Labour Party supporters prior to the official announcement of general elections on Sunday, Frederick highlighted various infrastructural developments in the city made under his leadership. These include the construction of vending booths, the redevelopment of Bideau Park, the facelift of the Darling Road Plaza and the construction of an amphitheater in Serenity Park.
“If you look around you, you will definitely recognise the recent upliftment, the upgrade of the city, which was quickly becoming a filthy and untidy place, for between 2016 and 2021, Castries was abandoned. It had to take this SLP government, led by the Honourable Philip Joseph Pierre, giving Richard Frederick charge of the city, to make a difference,” he said.
Frederick also called on his constituents to reelect him for further development of Castries Central, stating, “Castries is the city from which I say ‘hi’. Because in the next five years, Castries will be looking like Dubai.”
The incumbent delivered a parting shot at one of his election opponents. While he didn’t mention Felix by name, Frederick referred to the independent’s record of electoral failure in the constituency, contrasting it with his own victories as proof of his standing in the community.
Felix previously ran on the SLP ticket in the constituency twice, losing both times – in 2011 to Frederick, who was then a member of the United Workers Party, and to Sarah Flood-Beaubrun, also of the UWP, in 2016.
Frederick believes this election will consolidate his hold on the seat.
“I can guarantee you after the elections, there will be two records created in Castries. One man would have won Castries Central in its present configuration five times and another man would have gone up and he would have lost three times,” he said.

Fred stop that. Ma Humphreys fotay you good
Which Castries is this guy talking about? 99% of City residents loathe the environs. Bars blaring loud, vulgar obscene music all day long. Dirty little shacks litter the streets. Rum shops from one end of the street to the next. Every new business opening is a rum shop.
Anyone who has been to Dubai will know there is none of this filth there or any cilvilised place. Castries is a filthy ghetto and we know exactly who is responsible for it. The same person who promised gas station attendants condos 5 years ago. Same ploy again.
Why would you want Castries to look like Dubai?!!! Nothing wrong with uplifting the place, but Dubai? Really? This is the Caribbean not the Middle-East!
Dubai! He is hedging that his average supporter doesn’t know a thing about Dubai. He is right. Anyone who is decently versed in social studies can see right through this nonsense. Let’s get it over with. Just order some more plywood.
Of course it will, electrions is round the corner…. 🤣🤣😂
People actually leave their homes, stand in line, dirty their finger to vote for that man? Smh. St. Lucia is not a real place.
