Twenty-three year old burglary suspect, Benjamin Joseph, of Agard/Morne du Dun has been formally charged with the offence of stealing from a dwelling house and damage to property in the Carellie vigilante justice incident.
A visitor to a Carellie resident reported hearing the sound of someone breaking into a residence and said he surprised Joseph and with the help of residents of the area, tied him up.
The Police were summoned, but before they arrived the young man was dealt several blows.
The beating, somw of which was captured on video, triggered an intense debate about vigilante justice, with some calls for the perpetrators to be arrested and charged.
Joseph has been remanded into custody and scheduled to make a court appearance on Monday September 14 2015.
