Burglary Suspect Makes First Appearance in Court

A twentythree year old burglary suspect who fell victim to vigilante justice, made his first

appearance in court today.

Twenty three year old Benjamin Joseph, of Agard/Morne du Dun was formally charged with the

offence of stealing from a dwelling house and damage to property.

The charges arose from an incident last week at a house in Carellie where it was reported that a

visitor to the home surprised Joseph after he broke into the dwelling, apprehended him and tied

him up.

The Police were summoned, but before they arrived the young man was dealt several blows.

The beating, captured on video, triggered an intense debate about vigilante justice, with some calls

for the perpetrators to be arrested and charged.
