UWP Welcomes Decision to Suspend License Fee Increase

CASTRIES, Saint Lucia –Wednesday, September 16, 2015

The United Workers Party welcomes the decision by the government of St. Lucia to suspend the proposed increases in learner-drivers’ license permit. The UWP is of the view that the general public cannot afford additional increases in the cost of living in these hard economic times. Former Minister of Transport Hon. Guy Joseph has described the proposed license fee as oppressive and insensitive.

He maintained “a driver’s license takes an average of three months to obtain so asking the people of St. Lucia to pay a fee for 12-months is very insensitive and simply unwise at this time,” the former transport minister added.

The United Workers Party will be advocating for more sensible and fairer policies at a series of public and town hall meetings across the country commencing tonight in Millet. The main opposition party of St. Lucia believes that radical shifts in government policies must be affected to reduce the level of hardship currently facing the country.
