Government intended to retire C.O.P in the public interest

Prime Minister Doctor Kenny Anthony has said that the Public Service Commission (PSC),  had written to Police Commissioner, Vernon Francois, advising him of an intention to retire him in the public interest.

However Anthony told Reporters  yesterday that Francois had responded indicating that he wished to exercise the option available to him to retire of his own accord.

“He qualified for early retirement and asked the government to consider an agreement with him to allow him to proceed on early retirement, consistent with the laws of the country,” Anthony disclosed.

The Prime Minister revealed that as far as he was aware, that process is ongoing.

He said that normally when a public officer requests early retirement, that individual has to write to the PSC, which in turn advises the Governor General.

While dismissing as an “absurdity” reports that Francois had negotiated a five million dollar early retirement package with the government, Anthony told Reporters that at the right time when the process is complete he was sure that the terms and conditions would be made public.
