LIME Welcomes Home St. Lucia’s ‘Golden Girl’

LIME is rolling out the red carpet for the Caribbean’s number-one female high jumper and LIME brand ambassador, Levern Spencer, following her historic win at this year’s Pan American Games.

Levern received a hero’s welcome and an award from LIME Commercial Lead, Cheryl Francis who was waiting at the Sir George F. L. Charles Airport to personally congratulate her on her return to St Lucia on Monday.

Levern did St Lucia proud after winning the women’s high jump to give her homeland its first gold medal in the competition between countries from North America, Latin America, South America and the Caribbean. She cleared 1.94m to secure the gold ahead of Antigua & Barbuda’s Priscilla Frederick and Barbados’ Akela Jones.

Ms Francis says LIME was absolutely thrilled to receive the news of Levern’s glorious win at this year’s Pan American Games.

“We are extremely proud of Levern and feel humbled to have played a part in her amazing success. Her recent success at the Pan American Games is a phenomenal achievement and proves, yet again, that Levern is an exceptional athlete, capable of holding her own against the best in the world. Her commitment and passion for perfection has earned great reward for St. Lucia.”

In February, prior to the 2015 National Sports Awards, LIME renewed its endorsement deal with Levern, reaffirming the company’s unwavering support for the athlete. Levern subsequently went on to win the Sportswoman of the Year title for the 12th time. LIME donated the prizes for both the Senior Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year. The company also provided Levern with two additional awards, including one for her alma mater, Entreport Secondary, to further honour her for for amazing accomplishments.

LIME has been sponsoring Levern for the past eight years, providing her with financial and telecommunications support to assist with her sporting career and education. LIME was a major contributor to the ‘Levern London 2012’ initiative aimed at helping Levern with her training for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Back In 2008 Cable & Wireless provided sponsorship support to Levern and St. Lucia’s leading women’s javelin thrower, Erma Gene Evans, both of whom qualified to represent St. Lucia at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. C&W also provided support to the St Lucia Olympic Committee to assist with preparations for the Beijing Summer Games.

So far this year LIME has contributed over two hundred thousand dollars to sports, education and youth development, particularly at the grass roots level and in schools and community-based clubs and organisations to help find the seeds that will grow into great achievers and win glory for St. Lucia.
