The President of the Police Welfare Association, (PWA), Camron Laure, has told the Times that the organization plans to respond soon to issues that have affected the public perception and the morale of members of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, (RSLPF).
“It is almost as if Police Officers feel threatened by the political directorate, and we need to address some of these issues,” Laure declared.
The issues to which the PWA President referred included media reports of an alleged plot by high-ranking Police officers to overthrow the Dr. Kenny Anthony led labor administration.
Senate president and talk show host Claudius Francis has been reported in the media as claiming that the supposed conspiracy could be politically motivated.
“At this time we have heard the comments and it is something that concerns us,” PWA President Camron Laure told the Times, adding that his organization has to respond “appropriately.”
According to Laure, the PWA will be meeting in the coming days not only to deal with the issue of the alleged plot, but also to the damning IMPACS report on alleged extrajudicial killings by some members of the RSLPF and the matter concerning the retirement of Police Commissioner, Vernon Francois.
He disclosed that the PWA is concerned about what it deems to be interference in the Police force.
At the same time Laure called for proof of allegations made against members of the RSLPF.
“Anytime you make an allegation, you need to be able to provide the evidence to support your allegations,” he asserted.
