UWP Leader urges Senate President to withdraw coup plot allegations

The leader of the opposition United Workers Party,(UWP), Allen Chastanet, has called on the President of the Senate, Claudius Francis, to withdraw comments alleging a plot by high ranking Police officers to overthrow Prime Minister Doctor Kenny Anthony.

“I think these are very irresponsible statements being made by the President of the Senate to suggest that the United Workers Party is conspiring with the Police against the Prime Minister,” Chastanet told the Times, adding that the claims are absurd.

“We are requesting that the President of the Senate withdraw those statements,” the UWP leader declared.

According to Chastanet, the only conspiracy he knows about involves the people of Saint Lucia who have had enough of the Doctor Kenny Anthony administration and plan to get rid of it.

He asserted that a planned UWP protest march will prove that the people of this country are fed up with the labour government.

Chastanet told the Times that Anthony was the one who recommended Claudius Francis to be President of the Senate.

The UWP leader declared that Francis has brought that office into disrepute, and it is now incumbent on the Prime Minister to deal with that situation.

Francis is reported to have said that he will resign his post as Senate President if he is proven wrong.

Claudius Francis is a disgrace as a public figure. You will remember the “Fredrick death threat” what became of that? The man is not fit to hold the president of the Senate.
I have stated before that there exist a conflict in the Senate role and his very political talk show.
Francis is arrogant and believes he is an untouchable, all because he is Kenny Anthony’s friend.

I believe this so called revelation by Mr. Francis is causing more division among the men and women of the Royal St. Lucian Police Force. I believe it is causing mischief by coming on air repeating gossip by a member of the force. There is nothing wrong in the guys having a discussion among themselves airing their views on a matter. I believe you should raise your standard. You are the President of the Senate first and foremost because it is a public office. If you cannot see that then I strongly believe you should resign. I believe it is time you start to respect that position.
