PM to Address UN Development Summit

Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony, is to address the United Nations Summit for the Adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda, as part of the 70th Regular Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 70).

The Prime Minister travels to New York City today, to represent Saint Lucia at UNGA 70, which is set to be historic in many ways.

His Holiness Pope Francis will address the Assembly. So too will Cuban President, Raul Castro. This will be the first time President Castro will be visiting the United States as Head of State.

The summit will convene from September 25-27, and Prime Minister Anthony is to deliver his address on Saturday, September 26, 2015.

The Prime Minister will also host a Town Hall meeting during the course of which he will meet and engage Saint Lucians of the Diaspora residing in New York. That event will take place from 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2015, at Brooklyn’s Mahalia Jackson Middle School.

The Prime Minister will be joined in the United States by Minister for External Relations, International Trade, and Civil Aviation, Hon. Alva Baptiste; and Minister for Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology, Hon. Dr. James Fletcher. Minister Baptiste is also expected to address the UN at its regular session.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to return to Saint Lucia on Wednesday, September 30, 2015. Hon. Philip J. Pierre, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport, will act as Prime Minister during Dr. Anthony’s absence.
