Sam Rene and Phelia Wilson, Shop Stewards from LIAT and St. Lucia Marine Terminals Ltd/ St. Lucia Air & Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA) both branches of the National Workers Union (NWU) will leave Saint Lucia on Sunday September 27, 2015 for a Workshop in Barbados.
While in Barbados, the two (2) Shop Stewards will join twenty-five (25) other trade union officials who will be attending an industrial relations training programme scheduled for September 28 through to October 1, 2015.
Among the topics for discussion will be:
> Role of Education and Youth in Trade Unions
> Education Methodologies
> The trade union movement and its relevance at this time
> Workers problems and campaign goals
The two shop stewards will also get the opportunity to develop their organizing and communication skills.
The four-day training programme is being sponsored by the International Transport Federation and will be held at the Barbados Workers Union (BWU) Labour College. The National Workers Union is an affiliate of the International Transport Federation (ITF).
