UWP leader warns – No place in party for those who cannot deliver

United Workers Party leader, Allen Chastanet, sounded a warning last night to a public meeting of the opposition group in Soufriere, that there is no place in the party for those who cannot change to ensure that the UWP delivers on what that the people of Saint Lucia want.

“This party is not about us, it is about you and we will work every day to make sure that this is a party that you can be proud of,” Chastanet told the meeting.

According to the UWP leader, the biggest difference between he and Prime Minister Doctor Kenny Anthony is that Anthony believes that the people of Saint Lucia are his employees, whereas Chastanet knows the people represent his Board of Directors.

The UWP leader declared that persons have told him that he is crazy to want a party convention after he had been elected as head of the party.

But he recalled having said that the UWP will have a convention every year.

“I want to be evaluated every year by what we do and what we deliver to you. Just because you gave me your vote today, does not mean you have to give me your vote tomorrow. I must earn that vote; I must earn your respect,” the former Tourism Minister asserted.

Chastanet spoke against the backdrop of recent calls by the Deputy leader of the UWP, Lenard Montoute, for the party to address its internal divisions as a matter of urgency.
