Tourism Minister blasts attempts to portray Saint Lucia as unsafe

Tourism Minister, Lorne Theophilus, has condemned as “dangerous and reckless”, statements by some industry players which he asserted maliciously try to paint the destination as unsafe for locals and visitors.

“Such irresponsible and blanket statements jeopardize and erode several of the gains and strides made within the tourism industry, especially over the past three years,” Theophilus declared.

According to the Minister, the gains are reflected in outstanding arrival and stay over figures in both land based tourism and the cruise sector.

Theophilus, who has been attending the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) meeting in Mexico, has been having negotiations with several major cruise lines there and their willingness to continue making Saint Lucia a preferred destination of choice.

Just recently the President of the Vendors Association, Peter “Ras Ipa” Isaac, in an interview with the Times, had expressed concern about criminal attacks on visitors and locals and had urged the authorities to urgently address the situation.

Dude, you must be asleep! I’m live in another country and see what is going on down there! The very people you are trying to reach out to have the internet and do their homework, unlike you. I’ve been visiting there for 2 decades and have seen it go to the rats! You are going to lose tourism and it will not come back. Look around…see how many other islands have delayed in taking action and are no longer visited! If you can’t clean it up while tourist dollars are coming in, you sure aren’t when they stop!
