An early morning fire destroyed an unoccupied house at Morne Du Don at about 5:40 AM today.
The Saint Lucia Fire Service responded with two fire trucks and one ambulance, but officials told the Times that by the time they got there the house was already ablaze.
Firemen reported that they were impeded in getting to the fire scene by traffic on the Morne Du Don road, as well as challenges in negotiating the narrow route.
They told the Times that they also encountered difficulty in fighting the fire since a nearby hydrant had no water, and when the water did flow, the pressure was low.
According to reports, the building that was on fire had no power since June of this year.
It was described as being a four bedroom building with one bath.
The two story structure was constructed of concrete downstairs and wood upstairs.
Some lamp poles were affected by the fire, but no nearby houses.
No one was injured as a result of the early morning blaze.
