Relatives of twenty-four year old Mc Lana Bernard of Agard, Morne du Don, have told the Times that she had a stormy relationship with the man who is suspected to have stabbed her multiple times and left her for dead near the cemetery in Vigie.
“They were always fighting, breaking up and making up,” a relative who spoke on condition of anonymity told the Times.
Another relative disclosed that Bernard used to live in a house at L’Astic Hill which was destroyed by fire, and the man who allegedly stabbed her was suspected by Bernard’s family to have set fire to the building.
According to that relative, after the fire the young lady, who works at the Sea Island Cotton Shop, went to live at Morne du Don with her two brothers.
However the person disclosed that the suspect, who is reportedly unemployed and lives at Forgotten Boundary, would often visit Bernard.
Police say that on Friday, October 16, 2015 about 7:30 p.m. they responded to a report of a stabbing near the Cemetery in Vigie, Castries and discovered Bernard being attended to by Emergency Medical Technologists (EMT) of the Saint Lucia Fire Service.
She was transported to the Victoria Hospital where she is listed as being in critical but stable condition.
Family members say they believe Bernard, who has a two year old son, will recover, but she is currently unable to speak because she has a tube through her mouth.
However they told the Times that she has nodded in the affirmative when asked about the perpetrator.
Police say an individual is currently in their custody assisting with investigations.
