Former National Security Minister, Calixte George, has said that Prime Minister Doctor Kenny Anthony is powerless when it comes to the issue of the IMPACS report on alleged extrajudicial killings by some members of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, RSLPF.
“You have put a lot of hell on Kenny not having done this or that. At the end of the day, you have the independence of the DPP. Kenny is toothless, he has no power over the DPP. The Prime Minister is toothless, he has absolutely no power,” George said last night during the DBS Television programme – TALK, with Rick Wayne.
“The only thing that he can do if the DPP has become inactive after so many months and not doing anything about what is going on is to fire the DPP, and that brings a whole new ball game,” George, who called in to the programme said.
However he said that to be fair to the DPP, the way in which the IMPACS report must have been written might make it very difficult for her to come up with a fool proof approach.
In an address to the nation on March 8, 2015, Prime Minister Doctor Kenny Anthony had read excerpts of the IMPACTS report on national television, and had indicated that the report would be put into the hands of the DPP – Victoria Charles Clarke to deal with.
Anthony scheduled meetings with members of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force this week to discuss matters relating to the report.
