The Director General of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, (OECS), Doctor Didacus Jules, has expressed conviction that the people of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines will make a wise choice when they go to the polls in December.
“We have an absolute faith and confidence in the wisdom of the people,” Jules told a ceremony today at the Saint Lucia-based OECS Secretariat to mark the 36th anniversary of political independence of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
He told an audience that included Vincentians living here, that these are not easy times for small Island states.
However Jules asserted that the very survival and progress of each member state of the OECS in the face of the adversity they now face, is testimony to the resilience of their people and the quality of leadership they enjoy.
The theme for the SVG observance of political independence is: Working together to build national pride.
According to the OECS Director General, in many respects national pride is the foundation of regional pride.
“Today we are all Vincies celebrating the pride and glory of the accomplishments of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines,” he declared.
Today’s observance at the OECS Secretariat is the first of several commemorating the political independence of member states of the sub-regional group.
On November 3, 2015, the Secretariat will be observing the 37th anniversary of Dominica’s political independence..
