The Saint Lucia Amateur Boxing Association (SLABA) has received assistance for the expansion and renovation of their boxing gymnasium at Vigie from corporate Saint Lucia and the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports. Contractor Martin Renee has submitted drawings and will provide technical assistance for the construction (pro bono) whilst Caribbean Metals Limited has pledged the donation of a roof.
The Ministry has begun the foundation for the structure and sees the refurbishment of the gym as timely. The resurfacing of the 3 courts at the Sports Complex, the fencing of the Saab are all works being undertaken in order to make the Vigie Sporting Complex a premiere facility in Castries.
President of SLABA, Mr. David “Shakes” Christopher has stated that the renovations are being undertaken “koudmen” style and therefore public support is needed to provide a safe space for youth and athletes. An appeal is being made to the public to “give-a-block” in order to fully undertake the work at the gymnasium.
The entire project has been estimated at a cost of $95,000.
