Continuing on its commitment of support for St Jude Hospital, Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa yesterday signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the health institution. Under this agreement, first formalized in 2013, St. Jude Hospital — and in particular the Pediatric ward — receives material and monetary donations generated on their behalf through the resort’s philanthropic activities which includes the weekly ‘Charity Rubber Duck Race.’
Mr. Mark Adams, CEO of Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa, explained the rationale behind the special relationship with St. Jude Hospital. Said Mr. Adams:
“St. Jude hospital provides vital services to residents in the south of the island, including many of our staff members and their families. We are gratified to be able to support their efforts in a meaningful way, especially the Pediatric ward and staff as they strive to provide the best possible care to their young patients. ”
Yesterday’s cheque, presentation and signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding took place during the weekly Manager’s Cocktail at Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa. The cheque of EC $10, 000 presented during yesterday’s ceremony takes contributions to St. Jude in excess of EC $50,000. The newly signed MOU covers a two (2) year period – November 2015 to November 2017. Other support provided by the resort to the hospital include: hospitality training to St Jude senior management staff and donations of linens, blankets, etc as well as toys and gifts during the Christmas season.
During his remarks at the signing and presentation ceremony yesterday, Dr. Chierry Poyotte, CEO of St. Jude Hospital commented: “We at St Jude Hospital feel a special sense of gratitude and responsibility to the guest and management of Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa. We are extremely thankful for this continuing show of support from Coconut Bay and their kind assistance to the children of Saint Lucia”.
