The Saint Lucia Hotel & Tourism Association (SLHTA) initially organized a National Secondary School Cooking Competition, whereby the Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School emerged as winners. Subsequent to this competition facilitated by the SLHTA, Saint Lucia entered the Caribbean Junior Duelling Challenge Competition, which took place from August 20th – 23rd 2015 in Barbados.
Kurtney Gill and Nicola Esnard students of the Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School proudly represented Saint Lucia and attained:
* Silver Medal for the signature dish and mystery basket dish for the qualifying round
* Bronze Medal – Finals.

Since 2006, the JDC has become a highly anticipated annual event. The culinary competition is open to secondary school students in Barbados and is aimed at introducing school children to the Culinary Arts in an exciting way and exposing them to the culinary field as a viable career choice. Now in its eighth year, the programme continues to be developmental, providing competitors with a well-rounded experience.
The SLHTA invites the media to cover the arrival of the students at the G.F. L. Charles airport on LIAT at 6: 30 p.m., today August 24th, 2015. A brief reception is to follow at the Airport’s VIP Lounge.
