Micoud Police step up the fight against crime

The Micoud Police are stepping up the fight against crime in the community they serve, with the recent creation of a CID unit and other initiatives.

The four-man unit was created in past few weeks, replacing the previous arrangement where the operation originated from the Vieux Fort Police station, according to reports.

Micoud Police station also now has a functioning night and day Patrol Unit, and has stepped up traffic checks.

The stepped up activity comes amid reports of a spate of recent break-ins in the community, eleven of which were recorded last month.

Police report that almost all of the break-ins occurred during the day, mostly when homeowners are away.

Several persons have been taken in for questioning in connection with the incidents, and one person has been charged and is currently before the courts.

Lawmen say that in almost all of the break-ins, electronic items such as televisions, and in some cases money and jewelry were stolen.

It is suspected that one group of individuals may be responsible for the crimes.
