Saint Lucia Police have announced that five persons are in custody in connection with three recent cases of rape.
The five include three young men, aged 23, 18 and 16, who were held following the gang rape of two teenage girls at Reduit on November 2, 2015.
At a news conference this morning, Acting Superintendent, George Nicholas, disclosed that lawmen are in the process of obtaining samples from the youngsters to be sent for analysis, after which a determination will be made on the way forward.
He also told members of the media that one person has been charged with one count of rape and one count of unlawful connection, in regard to an October 31, 2015 incident at Reduit beach in which two victims were involved.
In addition, Nicholas said that one individual is assisting the Police with investigations into this week’s rape of a ninety-seven year old Mon Repos woman.
“We are not going to leave any stone unturned; we are going to pursue them relentlessly,” Nicholas said of the Police response to criminals.
