Engineers from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport, are discussing how best to deal with a widening sinkhole which has appeared on the Castries Gros Islet Highway in the Rodney Bay area.
The sinkhole, described as being “huge”, has appeared on the car ridge way heading South bound to Castries, Engineering Assistant, Serge Regis told the Times.
Regis has urged motorists to be vigilant when going through the Rodney Bar area, since the sinkhole may widen even further as a result of vibration from traffic.
He disclosed that yesterday there were signs that the road was failing, with a six inch depression appearing.
Regis said that twenty-four hours later, the hole had widened to about one foot.
According to him, the November 6, 2015 heavy rainfall contributed to the development of the hole, and before that, the passage of Hurricane Tomas in 2010
