Catholic Priest, Linus Clovis, has said that easy access to pornography, especially in the case of young boys who are only beginning to develop sexuality, is contributing to rape.
Two teenagers were among three men arrested in connection with the gang rape of two young girls in the North of the Island recently.
“When you hear the age of those committing these atrocities you think how could they do this, then you realize they are at the age when they can’t distinguish between the imaginary woman and the real woman,” Clovis asserted.
He said in pornography women are treated as “flesh”, with which one can do what they like.
“The impression is given they enjoy it so the men feel they can do this to any woman and if you do it to a stranger you are not doing it to a real person. The person who is being raped is like one of those images on the internet – It’s not a real person,” Clovis asserted.
According to him, perpetrators do not realize that they are dealing with real humans who are capable of feeling and being hurt.
