Twenty-four year old stabbing victim, Mc Lana Bernard, says she is happy to be alive after sustaining some forty stab wounds in a brutal attack on the evening of Friday, October 16, 2015.
Thirty year old Dane Biscette, the man who was arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with the attack on her, was granted bail in the sum of five thousand dollars, prompting Bernard to assert that the justice system is emboldening criminals.
The twenty-four year old left hospital on October 26.
According to her, when she left hospital she was still feeling a bit unsteady but is doing better now and is scheduled to be back at work very soon.
Upbeat and laughing cheerfully at times despite her recent ordeal, Bernard disclosed that she still has to continue going to hospital once a week for a checkup.
“ I can actually take a deep breath and cough and yawn because I couldn’t do that before. When I used to try to take a deep breath or yawn I would feel so much pain because both of my lungs were punctured,” she explained.
Bernard also said that holes under each arm have healed.
According to her, she sustained about forty-seven stab wounds on the evening of Friday, October 16, 2015, when she was attacked near the Vigie cemetery.
“ The worst was the one to my back that punctured my lung and then I have the slash to by throat, but it was not deep enough to touch my windpipe so thank God, that’s the two worst ones that could have killed me and they didn’t,” Bernard declared.
“I am so happy. I don’t know how I managed to survive. I don’t understand how I could survive all those stab wounds,” she told the Times.
