Duo accused of practicing obeah deported from Antigua

The two Indian men accused of practicing obeah were deported from Antigua & Barbuda and departed the country yesterday afternoon on an international flight.

Sandeep Gangadharaiah and Manjunath Govindappa, who were charged under the Obeah Act of 1904, were ordered removed from the state when they appeared in the St John’s Magistrates Court for a second time, yesterday.

Gangadharaiah, of Rowan Henry Street and Govindappa of Prince Klaas Street, were initially charged over the weekend for professing to tell fortunes by supernatural practices and for publishing pamphlets to promote the superstition of obeah.

Police executed a search warrant at an apartment that was occupied by one of the men and seized material said to have been evidential to the practice of obeah.
