Stephenson King talks political options

Former United Workers Party, UWP, political leader, Stephenson King, declaring that he is foremost and with much conviction, a member of the party and committed to it, has nevertheless made it clear that all politicians will have options.

He listed among those options bowing out, considering other organizations and standing alone.

However, King, who appears to be at odds with the current leadership of the party he once led, made it clear that he was not yet at the stage of considering options.

“ I am very hopeful that in the short period that is ahead of us that the party and myself and others who have problems in the party, can find a vehicle to resolve those issues and prepare ourselves for the next general elections,” the Castries North MP and former Prime Minister told the Times.

Asked that would happen if those efforts fail, King’s response was:

“Failure to resolve the issues then we begin to actively consider the options. But I really do not want to preempt what is likely to happen. I really would hope that the first option, which is the option of staying within the organization, would be the only option available to us.”

It is clear that Stephenson King never wanted to work with Allen Chastanet since he was first democratically chosen by the UWP Executive to be leader of the party. He refused to shake hands with Allen Chastanet when he (Chastanet) was nominated. Now he is finding all sort of excuses as he realizes that even if he wins his seat that will not make a difference within the Organization. He is too weak to be a leader going forward and he should accept that.

Well spoken, I think. However, it’s my view that King will have much difficulty finding a workable accommodation within the party at this stage and in the prevailing mood. Should something positive eventuate he must be prepared to play second fiddle to Chastanet and Rigobert. But who knows, King together with one or other of his cohorts could hold the balance of power at the next polls and he could end up being prime minister again by default.

All lifestyle related maladies are reversable with proper dieting and appropriate physical activity but ONLY if permanent damage has not yet been done to your vital organs. In human relationships, permanent damage equals irreconcilable differences, which is a valid ground for divorce.

In some cases, relationships are like appendices and not needed. When they’ve gone bad, you’re best cutting them off because they stand the chance of taking your life.

Let’s hope that (if your UWP relationship is vital to you) permanent damage has not yet been done. If it has, ( but it is an appendix relationship) then your only option will be to severe it and save your life because like an appendix, a toxic relationship is not worth losing yourself over it. Let wisdom prevail.

But didn’t Chastanet say that something about ALBA. He does not understand international relations and so should refrain from commenting on such matters.

King is too small minded to make the shift.
