A Police officer, identified as Special Constable 249 Palmar, was doused with gasoline this morning around 10:00 a.m. on Bridge Street by an assailant who attempted to set the officer alight, reliable sources have told the Times.
According to reliable sources Palmar, who is attached to the Police Traffic Department was in uniform at the time of the gasoline attack.
He was on his Police motorcycle when the assailant struck.
The officer sustained burns to the arm, it is reported.
However he is reported to have fought off his attacker, and with the help of other Police Officers who happened to be in the area at the time, gave chase and apprehended the assailant in the William Peter Boulevard.
The attacker is now is custody.
Officer Palmar was treated at Victoria Hospital and discharged.
