The Chairman of the ruling Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP), Doctor Julian R. Hunte, has told the annual conference of delegates of the party today that the leader of the opposition United Workers Party (UWP), Allen Chastanet, is not accepted by his own people.
”What we are facing right now is a situation where UWP leader does not represent the views of the United Workers Party. If he is not accepted by his own people how can the country be accepted to acknowledge him as a leader?”
The SLP Chairman and former leader of the party asserted that Chastanet must first clean up “the mess” that represents the UWP.
“If he ever gets through, then he can come back to the people of this country,” Hunte declared.
He recalled that the last four years had been very difficult, with a lot of work going into restructuring the economy.
According to Hunte, as a result, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had issued a good report on Saint Lucia.
“You cannot change in mid stream,” he said, while urging the attendees at the SLP convention to stay with Labour.
