Castries South East MP, Guy Joseph, has accused the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) government of penalizing constituencies that voted in favour of the United Workers Party (UWP) in the last elections, with the worst level of victimization ever.
“Every candidate from the UWP who won seats in the last elections has suffered as a result of the policies of the labour party,” Joseph, a former Minister of Communications, Works, Transport and Public Utilities asserted.
He was speaking to reporters outside parliament today.
Joseph mentioned the community of Bexon in his Castries South East constituency as an example.
“Not even the de-silting has been done in an area that we have seen flooding so many times. Go and you will see the silt from the last rains,” he declared.
According to the former Minister, should he be given a quarter of the allocation he gave to the labour party when the UWP was in power, he would be happy.
“Under the Taiwanese funded project, when I met with the Taiwanese they indicated that to the tune of 500 to 800 thousand dollars every year should be spent in my constituency through me as the MP,” Joseph disclosed.
However he lamented that the four or five projects that have been done in his constituency have not amounted to half a million dollars for the four years that the labour administration has been in power.
Joseph said that he had submitted the same projects for three consecutive years, to no avail, one of them being the upgrade of the Bexon Park which is in a dilapidated state.
The Castries South MP recalled that he had requested $35,000 under supervision through the Taiwanese fund, but the project has not been implemented.
“Four years have passed, and not even that,” Joseph lamented.
