The Saint Lucia Writers’ Forum culminates its year of activities with a gala night at the Castries Central Library. The occasion is its Awards and Recognition Night.
Through this activity the organisation wishes to recognize the contribution of its members and supporters (both institutional and individuals) through out the year. Inculded in the night’s programme are entertainment from its members (in the form of musical renditions, dance, poetry performances) and a karaoke session.
The cocktail night will also see the launching of a couple of books; a Profile series by Dawn French, entitled, 2015 Laureates’ Chair, documenting activities from the year’s Laureate’s Chair public readings and the Forum’s English anthology, Opus Spectrum Vol 1 – The Initiation.
Among the highlights of the Forum for the year were its activity to celebrate Independence, the visit of several schools island wide during reading month in May, the publication of its Kwéyòl anthology, Nou Ka Ékwi, and a panel discussion for Emancipation, discussing the topic, Women’s Rights, Gone Wrong?
The Laureate’s Chair, a public month-end reading activity, which started in June has become a signature event for the Forum. Featured writer for Chair for this year were Dr Adrian Augier, Mr Kendel Hippolyte, Ms Sharon Trezelle, Mr Modeste Downes, Frank Gilkes from Barbados and Dr Anderson Reynolds.
The Awards and Recgonition Night is also a fund raising activity. All attendees are to contribute $50 or more to assist the development of writers from the Forum. Book your space by calling 4527309. Orders for the books being launched can be made at the event.
Forum President, Kensley Charlemagne, will not me seeking re-election in the new executive at its Annual General Meeting slated for January 19, 2016.
