A fundraiser for fifty-eight year old Rufus Pierre who was shot in the back by bandits earlier this year and left paralyzed from the waist down, has been organized in Cul de Sac where the incident happened.
The fundraiser will take the form of a dance on Friday January 1, 2016, at the Power Pub.
The event has been organized by Pierre’s girlfriend, Georgia Isidore to raise money for his medical expenses.
The gunshot victim told the Times that he has so far spent almost all his savings to pay medical bills, and still owes St Jude hospital some $7,000.
Pierre and Isidore were leaving the shop they jointly operate at Cul de Sac at about 9:PM on October 13, 2015, when they were confronted by three criminals.
The men robbed the couple of $250, shot Pierre in the back and escaped.
Pierre, a tradesman by profession, told the Times that since the incident he has been confined to a wheelchair and needs constant therapy and daily medication.
According to his girlfriend, one set of medication costs about $300 a month, added to the rental of his wheelchair for $100 a month.
Isidore disclosed that to make matters worse, it is suspected that Pierre may have developed a blood clot.
She told the Times that in addition, they have to pay for transportation for his regular trips to and from the Doctor since they do not own a vehicle.
Both assert that they knew who the instigator of the attack was and gave the information to the Police.
However the couple told the Times that after arresting the individual, the Police had to release him for lack of evidence.
