Wok cleaning prompts emergency call

A wok cleaning exercise at a Chinese restaurant in downtown Castries prompted an emergency call to the Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) this afternoon.

As a result of the emergency call, two fire trucks  and an ambulance were dispatched to the Richard Frederick building at about 3:57 PM, following reports that smoke was seen emanating from the downstairs section.

However the Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) told the Times that upon arrival, it was discovered that persons at a Chinese restaurant on the ground floor of  the building had put woks on the fire to get rid of accumulated grease on the utensils.

An SLFS spokesman explained that the greasy woks on the fire were the source of the smoke that led to the emergency call.
