‘Reds’ shocked at Brian Mc Donald’s death

Sportscaster Joseph ‘Reds’ Perreira has expressed shock at the death today of his colleague, Brian Mc Donald.

Perreira described the deceased Radio Saint Lucia employee as having made a “magnificent” contribution to sports.

He recalled that he had known Mc Donald for as long as the latter had worked at Radio Saint Lucia (RSL).

“He was one of the outstanding journalists in the Caribbean and had a great passion for sports,” Perreira recalled.

He told the Times that Mc Donald was well respected as a young reporter and had developed a good network of contacts.

Perreira also paid tribute to Mc Donald’s discipline as an early morning Sportscaster who had a special love for football and boxing.

“He has left very large shoes to fill,” he said.

Perreira, a former President of the then Saint Lucia Amateur Boxing Association,  expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, recalling that only yesterday he had tried unsuccessfully to get in touch with Mc Donald on a sports-related matter.
