CASTRIES, 17th January, 2016 — The Media Association of Saint Lucia (MASL) is enormously saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Sports Journalist, Brian Mc Donald. Mc Donald was a veteran Sportscaster who demonstrated immeasurable passion for his craft and did his job with the utmost skill and dexterity.
His career spanned close to twenty-five years,but his love for media extended for a much longer period. Brian was a staple at Radio Saint Lucia where he began and ended his broadcast career.
In paying tribute to the veteran Sportscaster, MASL President, Clinton L. Reynolds, said the media fraternity has lost a tremendous talent who exemplified unmatched dedication, professionalism and knowledge of his craft.
“I am shocked and very saddened at the passing of my good friend and colleague, Brian Mc Donald at the young age of 43 years,” Reynolds said. “During our time together at Radio Saint Lucia from 1995 to 1999.
Brian was always ready to share of his experience and provide encouragement.His signature delivery style, coupled with his profound knowledge and understanding of every major sport on the planet,made him one of the foremost sports journalists in the history of Saint Lucia,” he added.
The Media Association President also recounted McDonald’s mastery of his craft as a sportscaster and journalist.
“Brian Mc Donald possessed an incredible memory that allowed him to recall minute details about sports history with recency and accuracy, and his mastery of the most difficult names was unmatched,” according to Reynolds. “He was not only a great sportscaster,but a prolific sportsman,leading his Saint Mary’s College football team to many victories as captain. However, his immeasurable love for broadcasting overshadowed his playing career.”
At his death, Mc Donald was the Vice President of the Saint Lucia Amateur Boxing Association and a key organizer of the popular Blackheart Football Tournament.
He spent his entire career as a Sports Journalist at Radio Saint Lucia. The Media Association of Saint Lucia and the media fraternity extends deep sympathy to Brian’s family and friends.
The passing of our colleague and friend has left a huge void in our media family but he will live on in the tremendous body of work he has left behind.
