The Fond Canelles culvert project was receiving the final layer of asphalt today, January 25, 2016.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Infrastructure told the Times the final asphalt layer, which had been held up by rain, will complete the project.
“The rain in particular on Saturday did not facilitate the laying of the asphalt because you need dry weather to do that,” the spokesman disclosed.
He noted that all other components of the project are in place.
They include slope stabilization works.
However with final layer of asphalt being laid and road markings being done, the project will be completed, the spokesman disclosed.
The Fond Canelles road was open to traffic on January 22, 2016.
The road was damaged by the 2013 Christmas Eve Trough, causing havoc to traffic.
Vehicles had to be diverted to allow for complete reconstruction of a new passageway over the location after the entire road collapsed.
O.B. Sadoo Engineering were the contractors on the project that was funded by the World Bank and the government of Saint Lucia.
