When EXPOCOMER 2015 opened in Panama City, Panama on March 11, for the first time in its 33 year history, there was a pavilion dedicated to Caribbean and African businesses, thanks to the intense lobbying of Founder and CEO of the Panama World Trade & Investment Foundation (PWTIF), Dr. Melida Harris Barrow.
During its inauguration ceremony, Mr. Carlos A. Rodriguez, Commissioner of the Organizing Committee, alluded to this milestone “…today is a very special day for the Chamber of Commerce and the Organizing Committee of this event, because after 33 years of uninterrupted staging of this event, for the first time there is a pavilion in this category representing the beautiful countries of the Caribbean…” Dr. Melida Harris Barrow, Administrator/Promoter of the Caribbean/Africa Pavilion, echoed that sentiment in her remarks and reiterated that “…this was the first year but by no means the last”.
Based on data provided by the Center for Economic Studies at the Chamber of Commerce of Panama (CEECAM) EXPOCOMER 2015 was a success with approximately US$124 million in transactions; approximately 10,500 visitors received and over 1,350 contacts made in the business round tables.
The EXPOCOMER 2016 Organizing Committee of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama (CCIAP) has again granted the Panama World Trade & Investment Foundation (PWTIF) the rights to be the Promoter/Administrator of the Caribbean/African Pavilion, and in this capacity, a cordial invitation is being extended to Caribbean/African companies to participate in the thirty fourth staging of this exhibition which is scheduled to take place March 9 to 12, 2016 at the ATLAPA Convention Center, Panama City, Panama.
