Castries North MP, Stephenson King, has asserted that he will be contesting seat as a member of the opposition United Workers Party (UWP).
King made his position clear during an interview with DBS Television last night.
He noted that he had been endorsed by the UWP as its candidate for Castries North, and had he no intention of running he would have told the UWP not to bother.
“I continue to function as the MP for Castries North and present myself to the constituents on a daily basis and the people are very comfortable with my representation,” the former Saint Lucia Prime Minister declared.
He noted that he has never said that he would not contest the next general elections.
King acknowledged that there has been a lot of speculation about his political future ever since the “turmoil” in the UWP.
He alluded to speculation that he would cross the floor, as well as questions about whether he would remain as a member of the party.
However he explained that he continues to indicate to the UWP that he is available as a candidate in the next elections.
