Lady Leen to be honoured by Saint Lucians in New York

NEW YORK, NY, January 22, 2016 /Public Relations Officer/ — As part of the celebrations recognizing Saint Lucia’s 37th Independence Anniversary, the Saint Lucia House Foundation (THE FOUNDATION) is proud to announce that Frances Marileen Baptiste (Lady Leen) (S.L.P.M) a Veteran Calypsonian will be the recipient of the prestigious award for contribution to the cultural art form of Saint Lucia.

Lady Leen who began her calypso career in 1990 and hails from Castries has received numerous awards throughout the region for her tireless contribution to Calypso.

The Annual Gala is the main activity for Saint Lucians in New York during the celebration of Saint Lucia’s Independence Anniversary.

The event is scheduled for February 27, 2016, from 9:00 pm – 2:00 am at Riccardo’s By the Bridge in Astoria, NY.

Matthias Wilkie, President of The Foundation, says “as we celebrate the 37th Independence Anniversary it is only fitting that we honor an artist such as Lady Leen for her continued commitment to the Calypso art form in Saint Lucia.

Lady Leen is on record in Saint Lucia as being the longest active female Calypsonian is a recipient of one of the highest awards in Saint Lucia, the Les Piton Gold Medal [S.L.P.M] for her meritorious contribution to Calypso and the Arts.”

Lady Leen will arrive in New York on Thursday, February 25th, and will receive this award at the event on February 27th.

Wilkie went on to say, “Having Lady Leen in New York Celebrating the 37th Anniversary with Saint Lucians in the Diaspora shows our appreciation for our artists and we are even more ecstatic to honor her for her outstanding contribution to the arts”.

As customary, this year The Foundation will also honor members of the community for their outstanding contributions in Business, Community Service, Leadership, Sports, and Humanitarian work.

In addition a Scholarship in the name of Dr. Donatus Keith St. Aimee for the amount of $1500.00 will be awarded to one college student.

The Gala this year promises to be of a very high standard with music being provided by The Inferno Band and Natural Sounds with DJ Eryk.

The Saint Lucia House Foundation was established in 2010 with the mandate to serve as the Umbrella Organization for New York, New Jersey and Connecticut working in conjunction with the Saint Lucia Consulate in New York.
