Former Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, Jadia Jn Pierre Emmanuel, has said that the criticisms of her successor, Jade Brown, are not justified.
“When I came in as Press Secretary there were criticisms as well so it is a public post, we expect that there will be scrutiny, we expect that there will be criticism,” Emmanuel asserted.
She said Brown has not had an opportunity to present herself and work.
According to Emmanuel, there is a very good structure in place in the Office of the Prime Minister including a communications unit and a support team.
She explained that once Brown receives the Prime Minister’s support, which she will, it will not be impossible for her to function and fulfil her role.
“Obviously some things will be done differently because we are different people we all have our styles, but at the end of the day I am very confident that she will perform her role effectively and at the end of the day let her be judged by her work,” the former Press Secretary declared.
Speaking of her new role as Communications Director of the ruling Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP), Emmanuel disclosed that she will be focussed mainly on party communications.
As Communications Director of the Saint Lucia Labour Party I will be focussed mainly on the communications of the party.
“Everyone knows that we are in an election campaign basically so we are prepared for the general elections,” she said.
“There is a lot to be done; of course we will have to communicate with the public what our performance in government has been what our new plans for the country will be moving forward and we would have some new candidates that we will have to introduce.”
She said that the new candidates will have to be introduced to the public so that citizens will know their priority areas so that that they can gain confidence.
Emmanuel asserted that people know that the labour party government has worked over the last four years.
“It is really to reinforce what is already out there,” she observed.
Explaining the difference between her former Press Secretary and current Communications Director role for the ruling party, Emmanuel said that the Press Secretary is focussed on the Prime Minister.
She pointed out that as a result the person holding the post would have a responsibility to inform the nation when the Prime Minister travels and what his position is on particular policies.
“My function will be purely to promote the Saint Lucia Labour Party so I will not be tied down with the formalities of government,” she disclosed.
