LPM leader, Therold Prudent, has warned that a dirty general election lies ahead.
Addressing a news conference today, Prudent made it clear however that his party would be no part of that.
But he predicted that millions would be spent by the ruling Saint Lucia Labour Party after four years of dismal performance.
He urged citizens not to be bought.
Prudent also said persons would become targets of criticism by the ruling party.
“Even you members of the media will be attacked for presenting balanced views which they don’t want you to present,” the LPM leader asserted, adding, “They want you to be in their pockets.”
Prudent asserted that the independence of journalists will be at stake.
However he told members of the media that they have an obligation to be independent and not become a mouthpiece for any political organization in Saint Lucia.
“You are the ones to help to protect the democratic system,” he declared.
Prudent said that hopefully in the upcoming polls journalists will be able to allow every political organization to have its say.
He commended the local media for being balanced and fair and not seeking to present one view over another.
Nevertheless he warned that even when a balanced view is presented, it will be faulted.
“When you present a balanced view they will take issue with you and tell you that you did not do it right, but you do not work for them, you work for your company and you work for the people of Saint Lucia most of all,” Prudent told the news conference.
