Lenard ‘Spider’ Montoute is among several candidates that the opposition United Workers Party (UWP), is expected to endorse shortly.
According to reliable sources, the endorsements will come when the UWP holds a National Council meeting this coming Sunday, February 7, 2016, in Gros Islet.
Mountoute, a former Minister for Social Transformation, Public Service, Human Resource Development and Youth and Sports, is expected to be endorsed to contest the Gros Islet seat.
Montoute lost the seat in the last elections to Emma Hippolyte by a slim margin of seven votes – an outcome that was challenged in court.
In addition to various endorsements at its National Council meeting on Sunday, the UWP is also expected to discuss a draft code of ethics for the candidates and party members.
A party insider told the Times that the UWP is hoping to complete its full slate of candidates by the end of this month.
The National Council is the UWP’s highest decision making forum.
