The mother of Saint Lucia’s latest victim of a homicide has told the Times that she was tired of warning her son about following bad company.
Modeste Anthony, known as Urias, was shot and killed last night outside his home at Jacmel.
His mother, Antonia Charles, recalled that she was watching television last night with another of her sons who reported hearing the sound of gunfire.
Charles said that upon investigation, she found Modeste Anthony lying on the tiles in front of the house and groaning.
She also reported seeing some men suddenly appear, one of whom proclaimed to the others that Anthony was already dead.
“Urias was a boy I always talking to him every day about his behaviour, that it not good,” Charles lamented.
She disclosed that just yesterday, February 5, 2016, she told her son that she was giving him a last warning.
“Change your behaviour, live a good life,” she recalled telling him.
She said she remembered informing him that she had built him a home and given him everything in the hope that he would make a turn around.
“But you can’t change people’s hearts,” the mother explained.
She said that her brother was killed in almost the same way in 1993, three days before she celebrated her birthday.
According to Charles her son, on the other hand, died this year three days after she celebrated her birthday.
She said that the death occurred after 10PM last night.
Police were on the scene this morning as investigations continue into the killing.
