KINGSTON, Jamaica, Monday February 8, 2016 – A police officer has been arrested following the fatal shooting of a teacher over the weekend.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) arrested the officer, whose name has not been disclosed, on Saturday evening, on suspicion of shooting with intent.
He allegedly shot the primary school teacher, Steven Dyer, around 10:50 a.m. that day in the southern parish of Clarendon, after the two had an altercation. There were no details about the nature of the altercation.
Dyer was admitted to the hospital in serious condition and was reportedly paralyzed. He succumbed to his injuries yesterday morning.
According to a report from INDECOM, investigators took a statement from Dyer before he was hospitalized, and also spoke to several people who witnessed the incident, and the policeman was identified as the shooter.
